Step into the vibrant world of Brazilian cuisine with our exciting homeschool workshop, Taste of Brazil: Teen Pastel-Making Adventure! Teens will embark on a cultural and culinary journey as they learn to prepare authentic Brazilian Pastels—crispy, golden pastries filled with savory or sweet fillings. Along the way, they’ll uncover the rich history, geography, and traditions behind one of Brazil’s most beloved street foods.

📝 Note: While Pastels are similar to Empanadas, they feature a lighter, flakier crust and are traditionally deep-fried for a signature crisp texture.

In this hands-on culinary workshop, homeschool students will dive into the history, culture, and flavors of Louisiana cuisine through the creation of a traditional Chicken and Andouille Sausage Gumbo. This class combines culinary arts, cultural studies, and practical life skills for a well-rounded educational experience.

• Culinary Science: Understand the chemical reactions behind creating a dark roux and how it impacts flavor and texture.
• Cultural Studies: Explore the historical roots of Cajun and Creole cuisine, including influences from French, African, Spanish, and Native American cultures.
• Geography & Festivals: Learn about Louisiana's geography, major cities, and famous festivals like Mardi Gras and the Crawfish Festival.
• Nutrition & Ingredients: Discuss the nutritional value of the ingredients and the role of aromatics like the Cajun Holy Trinity (onion, bell pepper, celery).
• Life Skills: Practice kitchen safety, knife handling, recipe reading, and time management in a hands-on setting.

• Hands-On Cooking: Each student will participate in preparing the gumbo, including measuring, stirring, and seasoning.
• Taste Testing: Students will sample their gumbo and learn how to adjust seasoning to balance flavors.
